Wynonna Earp is set to begin production in the fall and will debut its newest season in 2020. Congrats to Earpers everywhere — your passion and patience paid off!

Wynonna Earp tells the story of the great-great-granddaughter of Wyatt Earp, who fights demons, has a potty mouth and is just an all around general badass. The SyFy TV show beloved by critics and fans alike was slated to begin production in early 2019 in order to premiere in the summer of 2020. The show was renewed by SyFy at the end of its third season for two more seasons — a testament to the network’s belief and confidence in the show. Unfortunately, the studio which produces the show — IDW Entertainment — ran into financial trouble just as the show as set to begin shooting, and were unable to begin production on the forthcoming season.

Cue a large, loud and enthusiastic response from the fans — better known as Earpers — who rallied not only on social media, but raised money to bring awareness to the show and to their love of it.

That passion for the show was echoed by SyFy itself, which offered to pay a higher licensing fee for the show to ensure that it would be able to remain on the network — and which undoubtedly had a major role to play in the show’s return.

And while four major character contracts lapsed in the time between the seasons, negotiations went smoothly, with the cast and crew remaining largely intact heading into the fourth season.

Emily Andras, who serves as Wynonna Earp’s creator, showrunner, and executive producer, thanked the passionate fanbase for their commitment to getting the show’s fourth season:

The Earpers, this is all thanks to them. The movement they have built on kindness and inclusivity is legendary, but what I admire most is their determination to fight not only for what they want, but what they deserve. The fans showed up right when we needed them most — but then, they always do.

Shout-out to all the passionate Earpers out there! Your love and hard work has paid off, and we’ll be getting another season of this fantastic, beloved show on our screens next year!

Wynonna Earp is set to begin production in November, begin filming its 12-episode season in January and is set to release in the summer of 2020.
