World Book Night is an organization that gives a million books away in one night. Last year  the group celebrated World Book Day, and now they have created World Book Night which is also coming to the USA.

The goal of the organization is to get books into the hands of people who may not normally have these opportunities.  It is a concentrated effort to give people great books and encourage reading.  There are 30 different books being given out including The Hunger Games and The Book Thief. (see complete list)

From USA TODAY:

“It will be like Halloween on an intellectual level,” says novelist and essayist Anna Quindlen, the honorary chairwoman of World Book Night in the USA, an American expansion of a British program.

A committee of booksellers and librarians has chosen the 30 titles to be given away: a broad range of mostly new and popular books that include novels (Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner and Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones) and memoirs (Patti Smith’s Just Kids and Maya Angelou’s IKnow Why the Caged Bird Sings).

World Book Night is looking for 50,000 book giving volunteers. To be a book giver on April 23rd just visit the World Book Night site and apply.
