Academy Award winner Woody Allen has started preparations for his next film after Nero Fiddled, due out later this year, and has been eyeing a popular city in the North.

Allen has used a variety of cities as the setting for his films – including London, Paris, and Barcelona. Copenhagen would be Allen’s first movie set in Scandinavia, if he ultimately chooses the location.  The film is still untitled, but he looking to begin shooting in 2013.

Copenhagen looks to be a likely setting for his future film at least for financial reasons, as The Hollywood Reporter states:

Allen’s Lets Go Europe! approach to filmmaking has proven financially fertile for the septuagenarian director as the Euro set up allows Allen to tap lucrative film subsidies to bankroll his projects.  Copenhagen is currently setting up a regional film fund to attract international co-productions. It’s support, as well as significant Danish government backing of the film, will be a prerequisite to securing Allen for a Scandinavian shoot next year.

What do you think about a Woody Allen movie set in Copenhagen?  Do you like that he uses European cities as settings?

Nero Fiddled will be set in Rome.  Ellen Page, Penelope Cruz and Jesse Eisenberg will star alongside Allen himself later this year.
