Breaking Bad producer/director Michelle MacLaren is in talks to direct Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman movie in 2017.

When it was revealed that Wonder Woman’s solo film will be hitting theaters in 2017, the same year that Justice League will be released, many were wondering which director the studio planned on choosing. Now The Wrap reports that WB are looking to hire a Breaking Bad writer and director for Wonder Woman.

This would be the first female director to helm a superhero film, so it’s significant that the studio is looking to make an effort to break up the boys club.

While Wonder Woman won’t be the first female superhero film to hit the big screen, she’ll certainly be the biggest since comic book movies became a multi-billion dollar industry after Iron Man reignited the superhero boom in 2008.

Having a female director take the reigns of Wonder Woman is exciting, and it shows Warner Bros. is thinking outside the box and looking at making some changes in the superhero movie game.

According to the source, “Warner Bros.’s Wonder Woman movie may be zeroing in on a director choice — and a female one at that. Sources say Michelle MacLaren is emerging as a frontrunner to direct a Wonder Woman spinoff movie.”

Apparently it’s unclear what stage the talks are at with the studio, but they’re “keeping a tight lid on its DC Entertainment-based projects. Sources say MacLaren has had several meetings with the studio regarding the project.”

MacLaren would be an excellent choice for Wonder Woman, as she directed some of the best Breaking Bad episodes. She’s also directed episodes of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. TV show writers/directors seem to be knocking it out the park lately when moving to superhero films, and we think she’d easily be able to move to feature films.

We look forward to finding out more about Michelle’s involvement with the Wonder Woman solo film, and we hope to hear confirmation from the studio soon.
