Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine in Logan, the final movie about the grizzly X-Men hero. Watch the first trailer now.

Logan promises to send the mutant that started it all (in the X-Men movie universe, anyway), Wolverine, off in style. Hugh Jackman has been aged up for the final chapter in the saga, which takes place in a dystopian future.

Here’s the first trailer for the movie, featuring a Johnny Cash cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt”:

As has been speculated, Logan introduces the comics character Laura Kinney, played by Sienna Novikov. Laura, or ‘X-23,’ is a female clone of Wolverine created by a secret government organization in an attempt to recreate the original Weapon X experiment.

It seems that in a world where all the heroes are dead and Logan himself has nothing left to live for, a new hope in the form of a child — his child, if you want to get technical — might just give him a reason to keep going.

‘Logan’ movie synopsis

The following synopsis for the movie leaked recently, and although it has yet to be made official, we’re inclined to believe it based on the trailer above:

“Set in the future of 2024, Logan and Professor Charles Xavier must cope with the loss of the X-Men when a corporation led by Nathaniel Essex is destroying the world, leaving it to destruction, with Logan’s healing abilities slowly fading away and Xavier’s Alzheimer’s forcing him to forget. Logan must defeat Nathaniel Essex with the help of a young girl named Laura Kinney, a female clone of Wolverine.”

Also featured heavily in the Logan trailer is Patrick Stewart, who plays an older and much worse-for-wear Professor X. If the synopsis is to be believed, Xavier is struggling from Alzheimer’s, a heartbreaking ailment that will severely diminish his powers.

The trailer seems to hint that Professor X will meet his bitter end in the movie, which would be heartbreaking to watch, especially after the tender dinner scene between the odd little ‘family.’

Logan is directed by James Mangold, and hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
