On Wednesday, Universal Orlando’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter hit a major milestone – 5 million Butterbeers sold.

To celebrate, the park was handing out free Butterbeers to park attendees and snapped lots of fun pictures from the momentous occasion.

The delicious drink, as good Harry Potter fans know, is available in The Three Broomsticks and at The Hog’s Head within the books and is actually alcoholic. The version in the parks was personally selected by author J.K. Rowling, but unfortunately it is not made with any liquor (unless you bring your own flask, that is). It is available in frozen and liquid form. Those of you who visit Warner Bros. Studio Tour London: The Making of Harry Potter can enjoy it there as well.

Universal had celebrated the 1 millionth Butterbeer sold in January 2011. That means it took less than two years to sell another 4 million – an impressive (and very bankable) feat.

Over the past year we’ve been following behind the scenes work on the anticipated Wizarding World expansion at Universal Orlando. Rumors suggest a new Diagon Alley area opening at Universal Studios will feature a Gringotts thrill ride. Diagon Alley will be connected to the Wizarding World via a real Hogwarts Express, which will have storylines on board to watch as you travel between the two lands.

Have you tried the Butterbeer, and do you love it as much as we do?
