What once began as a rumor may be coming to fruition according to a claim from FilmSchoolRejects. According to the article, two short films have already been produced with the intention of including them in the DVD release of Thor and Captain America. Find out which character the short films feature after the jump!

That’s right! Perhaps to satisfy fans who have expressed the need for S.H.I.E.L.D. to have its own pre-Avengers feature film, two short films have been reportedly produced starring Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson.

In the article, they speculate that if these short films take off, it may lead to a string of superhero short films. They add that it is purely speculative and that no official word has been sent, but the conversation gets interesting when they mention how genius it would be to follow in Pixar’s footsteps and feature a Marvel short film before every Marvel film.

A possible model is for Marvel Studios to begin running shorts in front of their feature films in theaters a la Pixar. The future of Marvel movies could bring us one-off adventures with some very cool characters before the main attraction begins. Again, nothing is set in stone, but Marvel appears to be dipping their toes in the short film waters to see where it takes them. At time of publication, we have been unable to get a comment from reps at Marvel Studios.

Any Marvel fan will tell you that it would be foolish for Marvel to pass up such a lucrative idea since they currently hold the licensing rights to over 4,000 characters including fan favorites like Luke Cage or Dr. Strange. The ideas are virtually endless. Which Marvel character would you like to see hit the silver screen in a short?
