Yeah. We couldn’t handle our excitement either.

Although it is still a twinkle in the eye of director Joe Johnston, Screen Rant reports in their new interview with the Captain America: The First Avenger helmer that when asked if George Lucas had seen the film, Johnston gave a very interesting response.

“You know if he wants to see it, I would show it to him. I’m trying to get George to make a feature based on Boba Fett.”

Whoa. For fans of the original trilogy and fans of the silent bounty hunter, this is huge news. Although it seems impossible that Lucas would hand the Star Wars reigns to anybody but himself, it may be a possibility since he and Johnston apparently go way back.

Johnston began his career working as a storyboard artist for George Lucas – who recommended that the future director attend his own alma mater, USC film school, and continue to work for him. Johnston accepted the offer and went on to  work for Lucas as a designer and visual effects art director on Star WarsThe Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. He created the designs for some of the franchise’s most beloved characters and vehicles including: Yoda, the Ewoks, The Millennium Falcon, The X- and Y-Wing Fighters, The Imperial Snow Walkers, The Imperial Star Destroyer – and of course: Boba Fett.

Although we have seen modern Star Wars ventures (pretty much all of them except for the recent The Force Unleashed string of video games) fail miserably, if Captain America is as good as early word says it is, Johnston might very well get his wish.

So what do you think? Will a film featuring everyone’s favorite jet-packed man-for-hire do well in a society that has gotten used to being let down by Star Wars?
