We’ve known for some time Nintendo is readying the Wii U for a holiday push this season and now a reported leak from a third-party accessory manufacturer may have revealed the date of release as November 18.

The leaked date came from accessory-maker PDP during their presentation at the Gamestop management conference earlier today, Kotaku reports, citing an anonymous attendee at the conference and backed up with a Neogaf poster.

According to the source, a PDP representative said their line of Wii U accessories would launch a few days ahead of the console’s official launch on November 18. The presenter then realized his mistake and quickly tried to change the topic.

When reached for comment about the supposed leak, PDP community manager Candace Hinton told Kotaku, “we simply do not know that this point” when Nintendo will release their console.

A rep for Nintendo simply stated, “We have nothing to announce at this time.”

We’ll likely hear the official word on the launch date and price of the system on September 13, when Nintendo is hosting a Wii U preview event in New York.

The November 18 release date fits much of the speculation surrounding the new console given it fits the company’s history of releasing hardware on a Sunday. Both the GameCube and Wii were released on a Sunday, with releases of November 18, 2001 and November 19, 2006, respectively. More recently, the 3DS XL was released on a Sunday, also.

Giving more credence to the leak, the November 18 date is the final Sunday before Thanksgiving and the biggest American shopping day of the year, Black Friday. It’s unlikely Nintendo would want to miss having their new product on store shelves with so many consumers out and about.

Do you think the release is too late? If Nintendo does release the Wii U on November 18, do you plan on running out to be among the first to try out the new console?
