Wicked Abyss by Kresley Cole is a must read addition to the already excellent series Immortals After Dark.

About ‘Wicked Abyss’:

This fairy tale doesn’t end with a kiss… A spellbinding Immortals After Dark tale from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole!

The terrifying king of hell…

As a boy, Abyssian “Sian” Infernas had his heart shattered by a treacherous fey beauty who died before he could exact vengeance. Millennia later, a curse has transformed him into a demonic monster—just as she’s been reincarnated. Sian captures the delicate but bold female, forcing her back to hell.

Meets his match.

Princess Calliope “Lila” Barbot’s people have hated and feared Abyssian and his alliance of monsters for aeons. When the beastly demon imprisons her in his mystical castle, vowing revenge for betrayals she can’t remember, Lila makes her own vow: to bring down the wicked beast for good.

Can two adversaries share one happily-ever-after?

As Calliope turns hell inside out, the all-powerful Sian finds himself defenseless against his feelings for her. In turn, Lila reluctantly responds to the beast’s cleverness and gruff vulnerability. But when truths from a far distant past are revealed, can their tenuous bond withstand ages of deceit, a curse, and a looming supernatural war?

‘Wicked Abyss’ review:

Kresley Cole has done it again! Even though Wicked Abyss is the 18th in the series, it’s undoubtedly one of my new favorites. The novel returns readers to a hell like dimension called Pandemonia that’s fill with amazing wonders if you can just get over some of its scarier inhabitants. We got a peek of it in Dark Skye and now fans get to return as Sian has taken over the dimension after his brother’s death.

Despite all the power that come with the role of being the oldest Demon alive, there are downfalls too. Sian has lost his former appearance, which had left him accustomed to having women falling at his feet, and has started to slowly become a demonic monster. The more time that passes the more demonic his appearance becomes.

The only thing that could make it all worthwhile would be if he could have his mate back, but she died a long time ago after betraying him. But, her reincarnation Lila happens to land right at his doorstep thanks to tricky Nix. Lila isn’t anything like Sian’s former mate, and that’s actually for the better.

Lila is not only beautiful, but she’s also cunning and brave. Her quick wit and determination will have readers smiling throughout the novel. She’s also not as stuck up as her former self and can see past the outer shell of the being around her, Sian and the rest of the inhabitants of Pandemonia. It’s basically impossible for Pandemonia and its King to resist her.

The story sort of reminded me of a reworking of Beauty and the Beast, except with twists that keep it much more interesting and scenes hot enough to make you blush while reading. I devoured the entire thing in one night and am anxious to read it again. It’s definitely the type of novel that people will want to re-read over and over again.

The story also includes visits from some of my favorite characters from the series including Sabine, Lanthe, Josephine, Rune, and others from the Møriør.

If you’ve never read the series, I highly suggest checking it out. It’s by far one of my favorites and I always read the books as soon as I get my hands on them. You could read this story without checking out the others, because it does a good job of filling you in on any information that you’d need to know. However, the others in the series are just as good so even if you want to read this one first definitely go back and read the others!
