As many Hunger Games‘ fans probably did, I had the privilege of seeing The Hunger Games at the midnight premiere. Unfortunately for me, the theater that I was originally scheduled to see the movie in was already filled to the brim with teenagers.

Instead, we got our tickets exchanged for the 12:10 movie, which was in a smaller theater with a considerably older audience.

And boy, was I glad we switched theaters! The people in our theater were extremely respectful, never clapping over deaths, and crying over Rue’s death. When I had walked into the theater and saw all of the adults, instead of the anticipated screaming teens, I was a bit shocked. However, I’m very glad that’s the audience I had the pleasure of seeing the movie with for the first time.

I think all Hunger Games fans agree on one thing – the movie was fantastic! So, of course, Friday night I went to see the movie again with a group of friends. We went to a 9:20 movie, which was a huge mistake. The theater was filled with annoying, screaming teens. They were extremely disrespectful! They clapped when people died, laughed at Jennifer Lawrence’s amazing acting, and even had the nerve to make fun of Rue’s death.

I feel that teens are just too immature for The Hunger Games. Not all, of course. Mainly the ones that haven’t read the book. I think regular teenage girls would much rather see Taylor Lautner take his shirt off or regular teenage boys see stuff get blown up for 2 & 1/2 hours. I definitely think that The Hunger Games is aimed at older audiences that understand the political messages in the movie.

However, with the action of the Games drawing in teenage boys and the romance between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale drawing in teenage girls, we must cooperate with the young audience as well, which is one the reasons why The Hunger Games is so successful – it has something for people of all ages, every gender.
