The mid-summer finale of White Collar airs tonight on USA in what is sure to be an intense and impressive episode. This season, viewers have seen Neal (Matt Bomer) second-guess his loyalty to the FBI multiple times, often going against them without their knowledge, but to their benefit.

White Collar has always been sneaky and clever with its plot arcs, never giving away too much, always leaving its viewers guessing. The show has delved into more historical and mind-bending episodes than ever before. Similar to last season’s finale, concluding with Neal cutting his anklet and fleeing the country, this season has so far teetered on the “will-he-won’t-he betray the FBI and end up in jail” question – again. What Elizabeth (Tiffani Thiessen) says to Peter in the episode “Identity Crisis,” “it’s a treasure hunt! You love treasure hunts,” pretty much sums up the entire show.

We’ve also learned copious amounts of Neal Caffery (sorry – Neal Bennett) family, how instrumental Ellen (Judith Ivey) has been to him and that his father was a dirty cop. Neal’s character has been questioned immensely over the past nine episodes. Was he seriously trying to steal that art piece in “Honor Among Thieves” to gain information? Or did he truly want to turn the thieving Abigail (Rebecca Mader) in? Turns out, it was both, only in a roundabout way that Peter (Tim DeKay) realized after the fact.

So far, this season certainly upped the bromance between Neal and Mozzie (Willie Garson), going beyond being highly-intellegent partners-in-crime, and sharing the similarity of being two lost boys who grew up living lies. While their relationship has been tried at times, they always come back to one another, Mozzie being the devil to Peter’s angel on Neal’s shoulder. We saw them argue more than ever before as Mozzie’s storyline continued to grow this season, but learned Mozzie can certainly be vulnerable, given the right circumstances. The showrunners have done well to develop his character into a fan-favorite, with his sharp tongue and unique personality.
