Tens of thousands of Hogwarts students (a.k.a. Harry Potter fans) have been visiting Pottermore this week to take a new sorting test for Hogwarts USA (a.k.a. Ilvermorny).

Naturally, the fandom has searched for equivalencies between the Hogwarts and Ilvermorny houses since J.K. Rowling pulled the cloak off the American wizarding school earlier this week. We fans can’t be blamed for doing so — we have very little information to work with concerning these four new houses, so turning to Hogwarts has been helping us process our new identities. Complicating matters, however, was the fact that Rowling said there aren’t correlations.

While there are certainly arguments out there that support parallels, what may be more interesting is seeing where the students of each Hogwarts House are ending up after taking Pottermore’s Ilvermorny test. A poll conducted by the Hogwarts Running Club (yes, there’s a running club for Harry Potter fans) has surveyed 1,108 of its members, and used the results to develop the following charts.

Here are where the students of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin are ending up at Ilvermorny. Our thoughts on this data can be found below the pie charts.

Gryffindor

Hufflepuff

Ravenclaw

Slytherin

A few findings:

  1. Most students are going into Thunderbird and Pukwudgie, as Hypable’s overall poll found earlier this week.
  2. Gryffindor and Hufflepuff students are getting split up similarly to one another, while the Ravenclaws and Slytherins are split up more evenly across all four Ilvermorny Houses.
  3. Slytherin had the best distribution across the four Ilvermorny Houses, while Gryffindor and Hufflepuff had the worst.
  4. Very few Ravenclaw students ended up in Wampus, and in fact, Wampus gained the least amount of people from each of the four Hogwarts Houses.
  5. These statistics prove that — testing wise — no Hogwarts House is directly similar to an Ilvermorny House. In fairness, the sorting tests for the two schools are completely different from one another.

I’d love to see Pottermore release official data to show us where everyone is going. They’d also be able to show us data similar to the information displayed above, since everyone’s Pottermore accounts have the two houses stored in them.
