Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy novels in the The Wheel of Time series are finally coming to life in a brand new Amazon series.

Amazon is really digging into bringing beloved fantasy novels to life. First, they released that they would be creating a Lord of the Rings series, and now Amazon is set to bring The Wheel of Time to life in a new, hour-long drama.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures and Amazon Studios are co-producing the new Wheel of Time series that Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) adapted for television. Judkins will also serve as the showrunner.

However, this isn’t a small undertaking for Amazon. For those unfamiliar with the series, Jordan wrote a staggering 14 volumes in the Wheel of Time saga, and according to THR, is “the biggest-selling fantasy series since The Lord of the Rings.”

Despite the big job of bringing the show to life, Amazon Studios is up for the challenge. With the fervent fanbase behind the Wheel of Time and the powerful characters supporting the story, Amazon feels more than ready to work to bring this fantasy epic from the pages of books onto the small screen.

As Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios said at the Amazon Prime Video Presents showcase in London, “The Wheel of Time is endlessly fascinating and resonates hugely with fans as one of the best-selling global book franchises, and we were drawn to its timely narrative featuring powerful women at the core. We’re thrilled to extend our relationship with devotees who’ve found the book series transformative and welcome new ones by bringing it to life on Prime Video for viewers worldwide.”

The Wheel of Time series is set in a world where magic exists, but only women are able to use it. The story follows a woman named Moiraine as she embarks on a mission with five individuals, one of whom she believes to be the reincarnated form of someone powerful enough to either destroy humanity or save it.

Because this series is still in early stages, we don’t know anything about the show’s cast or a specific release date just yet. However, with Rafe Judkins–a serious Wheel of Time fan himself–as showrunner, we know that this series so many of us love so much is in great hands. We’ll keep you posted as more news breaks about this exciting new show.
