The mid-season finale of How to Get Away with Murder definitely has us wondering, where could the show possibly go next?

Now that all of the remaining main characters have either committed murder, attempted murder, or helped cover up a murder, it’s hard to imagine where the story could go next. Annalise being shot seems like the biggest shocker this show could produce, but we wracked our brains for a couple of ideas. With no further ado, we would like to propose these as some big shockers How to Get Away with Murder could try in the remaining season 2 episodes and into season 3.

Kill someone important

So far, Rebecca has arguably been the most important character on the show that has died. Sam was just a delicious complication, Emily Sinclair was an irritating pest, and Lila died before the series ever really took off. In order for us to start taking the threats seriously, it might be time to say goodbye to someone we care more about. Annalise seems off limits, since the entire series basically orbits around Viola Davis’ talent, but arguments could be made for just about anyone else.

Our proposal? Frank or Michaela. While we would hate to say goodbye to either character, they seem the most likely to ruffle feathers and get themselves in a spot of trouble.

Frank is always running around doing Annalise’s bidding, so there is a good chance that he could cross the wrong person at the wrong time and find himself the victim of a vengeful Keating adversary.

Michaela, on the other hand, is more likely to annoy someone to death. We love her, we really do, but her constant freak outs over just about anything that falls into the grey-area world that Annalise thrives in could get her hit over the head with something at some point. Again, we don’t want to say goodbye to her, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it happened.

Somebody kills someone and actually goes to jail for it

So far, the true murderers on How to Get Away with Murder have managed to stay out of prison. Annalise is good at throwing other potential suspects at the police until they are so bamboozled, they can barely see straight. Wouldn’t it be shocking if someone actually went to prison for a crime they committed? We definitely don’t want it to be Wes, our latest shooter, but who knows who will be guilty by the end of season 2.

New interns?

When Wes, Michaela, Connor, Laurel, and Asher were selected to intern with Annalise, we always just assumed they would all stick together through the show. After Connor’s reaction to the horrors that went on at the Hapstall mansion in the mid-season finale, we wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted out. Now that Oliver has formally volunteered his time to Annalise, we could see him being our link to seeing more of Connor without him being Annalise’s intern any longer. We could get some new, innocent blood in the mix and see how the dynamic changes within the Keating house.

A crazy new case

Maybe the solution to what comes next could come in the form of a brand new, crazy case. The Hapstalls’ murder case has been anti-climactic in the later episodes this season. Maybe it’s because there was so much going on, but if Annalise and the Keating Five threw all their efforts behind a crazy new case, we could see them putting their own issues on the back burner for a while. A high profile client or a truly difficult case could provide all the tension we need without involving any of the Keating crew in a new murder plot.
