The city of Wellington, New Zealand is going all out to throw a great world premiere for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It’s such a big occasion, they’re changing their name.
QCTimes reported today that the city of Wellington is spending $900,000 to prepare for the November 28 world premiere in anticipation of fans coming from around the globe.
The changing of their name to “The Middle of Middle-earth” will last for three weeks. The new name will be used on letters, in the city’s newspaper, and on postcards. The city’s new logo can be seen below. It was designed by Daniel Reeve who did cartography and calligraphy for The Hobbit film trilogy:
The guest list has yet to be announced, but we’re sure it’ll be a huge event packed with all of the films’ stars. It’ll be held at the Embassy Theatre.
Fans of Peter Jackson’s work will be pleased to know an Extended Edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is already in the works. A release date has not been set.
For all of us unfortunately missing out on the world premiere, the film opens in theaters December 14. Part 2, The Desolation of Smaug will be released December 13, 2013. There and Back Again, part three, will be released July 18, 2014. Watch the latest An Unexpected Journey trailer!
