The Lizzie Bennet Diaries spinoff Welcome to Sanditon has launched its first transmedia elements – and you are invited to join in!

Welcome to Sanditon is allowing the audience to get involed, and create their own in-universe transmedia accounts in order to participate in the story. Fans have started creating social media accounts for characters or businesses, located in the fictional town of Sanditon, California. To help us all keep them straight, the transmedia team at Welcome to Sanditon have split them into various lists on their official Twitter – take particular note of the lists for Official Characters and for Townspeople (read: fans).

It’s unclear just how involved in the story these fan-made accounts will be, however we are sure to learn more when Welcome to Sanditon premieres on Monday May 13. So far, fans have been able to interact on the official Reddit page, and can also submit content to the Sanditon, CA Tumblr.

Four additional Twitter accounts have also been identified. These seem to be Sanditon-related, but are not listed on the official Twitter in either list. These accounts are all currently blank, but seem to align with characters in Jane Austen’s original novel, who we have listed alongside:

@TheEdwardDenham (Edward Denham)
@TomPofSanditon (Thomas Parker)
@MaryPofSanditon (Mary Parker)
@TheClaraBreton (Clara Brereton).

Could these be official accounts that are yet to be used?

The first teaser for Welcome to Sanditon was released on Thursday. The teaser features Sanditon Gigi Darcy (Allison Paige), as she hits the road to launch a beta-testing program for Pemberly Digital’s Domino app in Sanditon, California.

Transmedia elements were a huge part of webseries phenomenon The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, and it looks like they will play an even larger role in spin-off series Welcome to Sanditon. For those uninitiated, transmedia is a way of telling stories across multiple platforms. In The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, we saw this in the characters’ accounts on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, YouTube and Pintrest. We can’t wait to see how the transmedia elements will play out in Sanditon.

Will you be joining in on the ‘Welcome to Sanditon’ transmedia fun?
