The first video content for Welcome to Sanditon has come online, featuring the adorable Gigi Darcy introducing viewers to her new project.

Welcome to Sanditon, the mini-webseries follow up to the wildly popular Lizzie Bennet Diaries, has initiated its run today with a short video teaser. The video re-introduces viewers to Gigi Darcy (Allison Paige) as she hits the road to launch a beta-testing program for Pemberly Digital’s Domino app in Sanditon, California. Check out the video right here:

In the teaser, Gigi is her usual bubbly self, eager to begin her adventures in Sanditon. She clarifies that her role in beta testing is “a helper, an observer. My job is to help tell the town story, not become the story.” Well, the best laid plans…

Gigi also notes that the auto-upload feature of the (so far, fictional) Domino app has been disabled. Presumably, this means that unlike the emotional and revealing first series of videos from Pemberly Digital, the residents of Sanditon will have direct control over what they choose to upload. It will be interesting to see how this technical change alters the way the Domino app is used to tell the story of Sanditon.

The webseries is based off of Sanditon, an unfinished novel by Jane Austen originally titled The Brothers. Lizzie Bennet Diaries show runner Bernie Su spoke to Hypable about the project, saying, “We’re going to tell a story… but we’re not saying that the story we’re going to be telling is what Jane Austen intended, because no one knows.” The creative team’s approach, Su said, it to “try and construct the world that Jane Austen constructed, in a modern version.”

Welcome to Sanditon is scheduled to begin its official kick-off on May 13. In the meantime, be sure to check out the project’s website and Twitter feed (along with Gigi’s Twitter and that of Pemberly Digital) to stay updated on all of the latest news from sunny Sanditon, California.
