This marks the first weekend since its opening that The Dark Knight Rises has not been king, as both The Bourne Legacy and The Campaign out-earned “the Bat.”

#1. The Bourne Legacy

I’m not quite sure what to make of the opening weekend of The Bourne Legacy, as the $40 million is better than Universal anticipated, but with that $125 million budget and an average “B” CinemaScore, any chance of a sequel seems up in the air, as this point it looks like the difference will be in the form of the international dollar.

Compared with the opening for The Bourne Identity at $27 million, this is obviously quite good, although then the Bourne franchise was an unknown commodity, as clearly Universal hoped there would be more buzz for another entry when they greenlit the project, as the last installment The Bourne Ultimatum brought in $69 million its opening weekend.

#2. The Campaign

The Campaign cooled down a bit after its solid opening day on Friday with $10 million, although Warner Bros. has to be pleased with $27 million opening weekend. It seems that despite the less than stellar “B-” CinemaScore, the appeal of Will Farrell and Zach Galifianakis was enough to draw an audience. It will be interesting to see whether this one has enough legs after the opening weekend, as the reported $56 million budget is a bit high for a comedy such as this.

#3. The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises has finally fallen from atop the domestic box office, although it has now grossed $390 million domestically as it nears the #2 spot on the year. The 45% drop is reasonable for Warner Bros., especially as many see The Bourne Legacy as a bit of a demographic competitor.

#4. Hope Springs

Hope Springs has now grossed $20 million since its opening on Wednesday, bringing in $15 million of that over the weekend, as its “B” CinemaScore should give it pretty poor legs in the weeks to come. Of course Meryl Streep may have something different to say about that.

#5. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days

With an “A-” CinemaScore, and perhaps the coming end of summer, families turned out to give Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days a respectable 43% drop. Although at this point the $8 million haul isn’t all that impressive.

#6. Total Recall

Sony continues to suffer with Total Recall, as it now sits at $44 million stateside on a (reported) $125 million budget, although that seems a little light.

#7. Ice Age: Continental Drift

Again, the story here is the international haul for Ice Age: Continental Drift, as it has now crossed the $750 million mark worldwide. Impressive.

#8. Ted

Yep, at this point its all gravy for Ted and Universal. Expect to see that sequel people are talking about sooner rather than later.

#9. Step Up Revolution

Step Up Revolution is definitely the worst performance of the franchise, so it’ll be interesting to see if we see another one. Maybe one with a smaller budget?

#10. The Watch

According to early estimates, both The Watch and The Amazing Spider-Man brought in $2.2 million, but nobody likes ties. Until weekend actuals are announced, we’ll go with The Watch, which isn’t performing well.

There we have it. The Bourne Legacy performs well, but is it enough? Next weekend we have The Expendables 2 and ParaNorman to consider as potential box office winners.
