As all prognosticators have predicted, Disney’s John Carter struggled at this weekend’s domestic box-office, earning a respectable $30 million, but struggling considering its bloated $250 million budget. The international box-office fared much better for the film, which lost the domestic box-office crown to repeat winner The Lorax.

Here’s the top five:

1. The Lorax – $39.1 million (-44.3%) – Week Two – (review) | 59%
2. John Carter – $30.6 million – Newcomer – (review) | 50%
3. Project X – $11.5 million (-45.2%) – Week Two – (review) | 29%
4. Silent House – $7.01 million – Newcomer – (review) | 49%
5. Act of Valor – $7 million (-48.1%) – Week Three – review | 29%

There you have it. It’s unfortunate that John Carter wasn’t able to muster enough of a domestic box-office draw, although it was successful overseas, particularly in Russia. For those fans, execs say the film will need to top $700 million total to deem a sequel reasonable. That looks impossible, as it will likely top out at $500 million, with legs. Too bad, as we clearly liked it.

How about you? Which films did you see this weekend?
