The numbers are in, and Immortals has shocked the field and most box-office prognosticators by fending off the likes of Jack and Jill and Puss in Boots. More information and a full top five after the jump.

Before getting into any specifics, here are the top five of the weekend:

1. Immortals – $32 million – Newcomer | 37%
2. Jack and Jill – $26 million – Newcomer | 3%
3. Puss in Boots – $25.5 million (-22.7%) – Week Three | 72%
4. Tower Heist – $13.2 million (-45%) – Week Two | 69%
5. J. Edgar – $11.4 million – Newcomer | 41%

The figures for Immortals are particularly impressive considering it was an R-rated film going up against a PG Adam Sandler vehicle and Puss in Boots, a family film with great reviews and a very strong performance domestically thus far.

In terms of total gross, this weekend saw both Paranormal Activity 3 and Puss in Boots cross the $100 million mark domestically, which is a success for both films, particularly Paranormal Activity 3 which was made for a mere $5 million. I think it’s safe to say the Paranormal Activity 4 announcement is just around the corner, as Paramount has obviously found a recipe for success.
