Deadline is reporting that Weeds creator and executive producer Jenji Kohan has inked an overal deal with Lionsgate. What does this mean? Kohan will continue as show-runner of Weeds, as well as giving Lionsgate the rights to any new shows Kohan creates.

Lionsgate had the following comment, via Deadline:

“Jenji’s deliciously dark sense of humor and her fearless approach to storytelling have made Weeds Showtime’s highest-rated comedy over its past seven seasons,” said Kevin Beggs, President, Lionsgate TV Group. “She’s a superb showrunner and we’re excited to continue working together on the new season of Weeds, Orange Is The New Black and multiple projects in development.”

Kohan had the following response, in her typical comedic fashion:

“Kevin is classy. Sandra [Stern, Lionsgate COO] is sassy. [CEO Jon] Feltheimer is an endless source of wonder. What can I say? Lionsgate is my joint, yo.”

It is exciting to hear Kohan will continue with Weeds until the show ends it’s run!
