Congratulations to Marble Hornets, the series that came in second in our search to find the best webseries ever. Marble Hornets may have lost to The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, but the series still managed to win 23% of the total votes, with an impressive 3,880 votes overall.

The Marble Hornets series currently has 302,060 subscribers and 61,461,736 views of its episodes. The series is still in progress, and currently 71 Entries (or episodes) have been uploaded to the main YouTube channel.

‘Marble Hornets’: An Introduction

Marble Hornets is a horror webseries created by Troy Wagner and Joseph Delage. The series follows the character of Jay, a film student who is slowly uploading the videos created by his friend, Alex, for Alex’s film project Marble Hornets.

As Jay explains, when Alex suddenly dropped the project and suffered a massive personality change, his interest was piqued. He asked Alex if he could see the tapes – Alex agreed on the condition that Jay never spoke to him about the project again, and then promptly transferred schools.

Jay hasn’t seen him since. As he investigated the video, he discovered the presence of The Operator, a seriously creepy Slender Man figure who acts as the primary antagonist in the Marble Hornets universe.

The videos are uploaded to Jay’s Marble Hornets YouTube channel, and the series also features the transmedia element of Jay’s Twitter account. Video responses to Alex’s tapes are occasionally uploaded on the totheark YouTube channel. As to who exactly totheark is – fans of Marble Hornets are still trying to solve that mystery.

Marble Hornets is one of the most innovating web series around – but it is also one of the more complicated. Rather than telling an easily navigated story, Marble Hornets fans pore over every detail in each uploaded video, finding and deciphering codes, making links, and devising theories.

Naturally, there are a few places you can go to join in on these theories, or read what other fans are saying. Once you have caught up on the series, be sure to check out Marble Hornets wikidot, The Slender Man wiki, and Reddit for any sneaky plot points that you may have missed.

A ‘Marble Hornets’ movie

Variety reported earlier this year that Marble Hornets has been picked up by Mosaic, a group better known for its comedies including Step Brothers, Get Smart and Semi-Pro.

The film is currently in pre-production, which means everything could change. It is set to be directed by James Moran, who was Second Unit Director on Paranormal Activity 2, 3 and 4.

Ian Shorr, who also penned horror film Splinter, is writing the script. Both Moran and Shorr bring some serious horror credentials to the film – although how exactly Shorr will go about creating a script from the ‘found footage’ currently uploaded is unknown.
