Wayward Pines will not air a new episode tonight, Thursday, June 18.

After the previous episode’s major reveal about what is going on in Wayward Pines, Idaho, we’re getting a week off to digest that information. Wayward Pines will return next week with a new episode, titled “Choices,” in which Ethan learns the truth and Theresa continues her covert investigation of the town.

Wayward Pines is being preempted for the U.S. Open.

In the previous episode, Megan Fisher told Ben and two other new Wayward Pines Academy students that it’s no longer 2014; rather, it’s 4028 and human civilization died out nearly 2,000 years earlier. What remained mutated into carnivorous creatures called “Abbies” (short for “Aberration”). A scientist named David Pilcher (who turned out to be Dr. Jenkins) foresaw the calamity and created Wayward Pines as a sort of ark to preserve the human race with a select group of people — and whose children would become the first generation of Wayward Pines.

Meanwhile, Theresa took on her new position as a realtor and met a new resident of Wayward Pines, Wayne, who had disturbing memories from after his car accident. Theresa promised to continue looking into the town’s mystery. Ethan also left the town in the hope of finding help, but after run-ins with Abbies, he was greeted by Dr. Jenkins/David Pilcher, who promised to tell him the truth.

It’s interesting that Kate appears to be visiting Theresa in the still above. They’ve had one conversation since the Burkes arrived in town, and it was not exactly friendly — as to be expected, considering the history there.

We’ll be curious to see what is going on with Kate, now that Ethan seems to have awakened her desire to learn the truth after their discussion in the woods.
