Assassination attempt

Ethan returns home from his time at the secret base, and Pilcher reminds him to tell no one of what he’s learned. The next day, Theresa finds him in the kitchen, and Ethan reveals the truth to her. Because Ethan does what he wants. Theresa doesn’t believe him, though.

When the Burkes get into the car, Ethan notices the clock is off. He has Ben and Theresa walk, then pops the cover and finds a bomb.

At the sheriff’s department, Ethan defuses the bomb. He then pulls out the files on Franklin Hobbs as Pam arrives to offer help. Ethan asks for access to surveillance.

Theresa, meanwhile, walks Ben to school. Ben says he likes Wayward Pines and asks his mother to give it a chance. They run into Amy and Megan. Amy and Ben head inside, and Megan blocks Theresa. After the bell rings, Theresa returns to Plot 33. As she walks across the ground, she realizes that the sod is covering something hollow and metal.

Suspicious behavior

Ethan talks to Franklin over coffee. When he says he knows Franklin used to work in demolition, Franklin leaves. Ethan follows.

At school, Megan teaches a biology class. She says Wayward Pines needs a new generation, and this class will one day parent it. It is her job to help future mates find each other, indicating Amy and Ben.

At the hospital, Pam finds her brother and tells him that there are two new pregnancies in town. She’s excited, but Pilcher is concerned about the resistance. She reminds him that Ethan is on their side.

Ethan, meanwhile, finds Franklin talking with Harold at a restaurant. Ethan walks in and Franklin leaves. Ethan asks Harold to come with him to talk about the bomb in his truck. Harold tries to run and Ethan tackles him.

Ethan knows Harold is involved in trying to take down the fence and demands the names of the people in their group. Harold says he acted alone. Ethan writes a note, asks Harold to give it to Kate, then lets him leave.

The leader

At the realty office, Theresa tells Bill she found a substructure on Plot 33, but Bill discourages her from snooping. He asks her to pick up some files at the hospital.

At the Burke house, Kate arrives and Ethan promises the surveillance is down. Kate doesn’t know who put the bomb in his truck. Ethan, though, knows Kate is the resistance leader and can find out. Kate says the resistance is the only thing that has kept her sane. Ethan demands they stop and tells her the truth. (He doesn’t follow directions well.)

At school, Amy catches up with Megan, and she says she really likes Ben. She wants to be more intimate with Ben, and Megan encourages her, which isn’t weird and boundary-crossing for a teacher at all.

Kate realizes Ethan is working for those in charge, and he demands they surrender. Kate agrees and returns to the toy store. She tells Harold they need to push up their time table to that night. Pam then calls with a reminder about their annual fertility consult.

Harold and Kate meet with Pam at the hospital. When the pair isn’t forthcoming about their lack of children, Pam dismisses them but tells them not to let her down. This solidifies their resolve to act that night.

Resistance

Kate and Theresa end up in the same elevator at the hospital, which isn’t awkward at all. Kate gets off the elevator, but Theresa stops her to talk about Ethan. They heard the same story about it being the future.

Kate says that a week after arriving, she connected to a secure Secret Service phone line. A message from Adam Hassler said she was entering a government experiment and to blend in. She would also be tested by another agent. She bids Theresa farewell.

At the house, Theresa tells Ethan she and Kate are worried about him. Ethan demands to know what else Kate said. Theresa tells her about Kate’s ominous farewell, so Ethan leaves to get Ben from school because he’s worried about what the group is planning.

At school, Amy invites Ben out to a walk in the woods later that night. They agree to meet after dinner. Their conversation is interrupted by Ethan picking Ben up, though.

That night, at the Biergarten, Ted confesses to Harold that he put the bomb in Ethan’s truck. Harold’s mad but still gives him the package. Ted leaves and puts the bomb in his delivery truck.

The resistance sets the bomb at the fence. Ethan finds them, though, and demands Franklin disarm the bomb. He puts a gun to Kate’s head, so Franklin disarms it. Ethan takes the group to the sheriff’s department. Kate is locked up separately. Ethan, furious, confronts her.

Kate says something was done to Ethan, which he’ll realize eventually. The resistance is not going to stop either. “It’s just begun,” she promises. Ethan realizes Harold has a back up bomb.

Meanwhile, Ben sneaks out of the house to meet Amy, and the pair hides on Ted’s delivery truck. They don’t shut the back door all the way. Amy finds the bomb’s bag and opens the music box. She leaves it open. letting the music play, and kisses Ben.

Betrayal

Ethan has Pam find Harold with surveillance. They see his meeting with Ted and the package hand-off, so Ethan heads after the delivery truck.

After crashing into a dumpster the resistance used to slow him down, Ethan is forced to continue on foot. He catches up with the truck as the music stops and the truck blows. He finds Amy bleeding but alive. Ben, though, is in bad shape.
