HBO’s Watchmen has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette that provides a closer look at the alternative world of masked heroes and unmasked villains.

Get ready for the wicked ride to begin!

HBO recently revealed that it’s newest superhero show, Watchmen, would be premiering October 20. Now it’s given us a closer, behind-the-scenes look at the world it will be showing us.

The official Watchmen Twitter account released a two and a half minute featurette earlier today that featured behind-the-scenes looks, never before seen footage of the show, and interviews with the cast and crew.

Check out the video below!

Creator/Executive Producer Damon Lindelof has already said that the show would neither be a reboot or a true sequel to Alan Moore’s original comic, but rather a remix of the themes and ideas presented in that story. It will be set in the same timeline as the original Alan Moore story — so everything that happened in the comic book also happened in the show — but will be in the present day rather than in the ’80s (when the original comic was set) or in ’90s (which would have made it a direct follow-up).

He says that the show will examine how “we as a society feel about heroes, most notably people who wear masks and fight crime.” He also let viewers know that while the Watchmen will certainly honor the original story, it won’t be required reading when coming into the show. Which means there should be plenty to enjoy for those fans of Alan Moore and comic books as well as those fans of Damon Lindelof and genre television.

The featurette also helps us to learn a little bit more about the world that we’ll be stepping into and answers questions about why the police are wearing masks, who are individuals wearing the Rorschach masks and what role might the heroes (and villains) of the original comic book play in the new series.

Watchmen premieres on HBO on October 20.
