Prepare to be inspired as you watch the trailer for Harriet, the long overdue big screen story of Underground Railroad conductor and freedom fighter Harriet Tubman.

We may still be waiting to see her take her rightful place on the 20 dollar bill, but at least we’ll now be able to watch her story on screen this November.

Harriet Tubman, abolitionist, freedom fighter and American hero, will have her story told in the upcoming biopic, Harriet. The film will trace both her individual journey north for her own freedom and the countless treks she made to the south and back up again to lead slaves to freedom as one of the most famous conductors of the Underground Railroad.

Watch the trailer below and prepare yourself to be inspired and to (likely) shed a few tears.

While Harriet Tubman is most famous for being a conductor on the Underground Railroad, she took on many roles as a freedom fighter in her life, including being an armed scout and spy for the Union Army during the Civil War. Harriet seems to touch on this lesser known part of Harriet Tubman’s life in the trailer, giving a fuller look at Harriet Tubman’s heroism and bravery than most history books may have afforded us.

Cynthia Erivo, who gave stunning performances in Bad Times at the El Royale and Widows, likewise gives what is sure to be an Oscar-worthy performance as Harriet Tubman. She’s aided in the story by abolitionist William Still, played by Leslie Odom Jr., and Janelle Monáe in a supporting role.

Along with Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Janelle Monáe, the film also features Joe Alwyn, Jennifer Nettles and Clarke Peters. Kasi Lemmons (Eve’s Bayou, Talk to Me) directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Gregory Allen Howard (Remember the Titans).

Harriet will be released in theaters on Nov 1, 2019.
