All Game of Thrones fans agree that the opening theme is amazing. But you have never heard it quite this awesome before. Check out some of the most original fan-created versions of the score and tell us your own favourite!

The Game of Thrones theme tune is probably one of the themes most frequently imitated by the online community, probably because it is so brilliant. We’ve seen a lot of different ones, from the amazingly beautiful, to the hilarious, to the downright weird. Let us show you what we mean…

Jason Yang and Roger Lima violin/rock mashup

This is one of the classics – performed on violin and guitar, with two amazingly talented guys doing all the parts. It was originally a solo performance by the violinist Jason Yang, and we can’t give him enough props for this! We almost wish this could be used on the show. But of course, the original still has to be our favourite… right?

Arya the cat meows her way to Westeros

Believe it or not, this is actually one of several feline interpretations of the Game of Thrones score found on the Internet. But in our opinion, this particular Siamese beauty nails it, and we’re sure Cat Stark (we had to go there) would be proud of little Arya the cat’s performance.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ kids give it their all

At the beginning of an episode commentary on the season 1 DVDs, the three kid actors Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner and Isaac Hempstead Wright decided to sing along to the tune, in beautiful harmony, and reminding us that they’re still kids having fun despite having to pull their weight on this decidedly adult show.

The 8-bit ‘Game of Thrones’ game theme

There are quite a few GameBoy-inspired 8-bit versions of the theme out there, like the one used for the RPG parody video, but we like this one because it really sounds like it could be in a game version! Now, how to convince the HBO executives to license such a game to reinvent the NES platform and satisfy fanboys and girls everywhere…?

Metal on metal by Charlie Parra del Riego

It’s difficult sometimes to remember that this is not actually the official Game of Thrones theme, because it blends in so seamlessly. But no, this is one of the metal versions that exist out there, and like the violin theme, HBO could easily use this and get away with it! Maybe at the very end of the series, in like 15 years, they’ll play the show out with this. We definitely think that it captures the epic feel of the series perfectly. (By the way, also check out this theme, which is also metal and which is what we use for the Game of Owns podcast!)

We love seeing fans get creative based on their love of fandom, and hopefully you enjoy what they have put out there as much as we do. Which is your favourite version of the Game of Thrones theme? Perhaps it’s one we haven’t mentioned – tell us in the comments!
