Marvel had a high bar to hit after Fox blew the roof off Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con just a hour beforehand thanks to their surprise Days of Future Past panel. As it turns out, Marvel was able to meet if not top the X-Men event thanks in part to Loki.

Mere minutes into Marvel’s panel on Saturday night, the lights in the room suddenly went dark and a deep tone started ringing through Comic-Con’s cavernous Hall H. The 6500+ attendees all began screaming because they knew something big was about to happen. Was it a surprise trailer? A clip? It was what no one expected: Loki himself.

Tom Hiddleston appeared on stage in his full Loki costume which made the crowd go wild. He stayed in character for the entire two to three minutes he stood on stage and had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

Watch the can’t-miss video below. As attendees of the panel, we can’t emphasize how electric the atmosphere was because people were still buzzing from the X-Men: Days of Future Past surprise which occurred only thirty minutes prior.

Hiddleston did not do any press at Comic-Con, making witnesses of the Hall H event even luckier.

Loki’s appearance was just a small part of the surprises. Later at Marvel’s panel, the entire cast of Guardians of the Galaxy appeared on stage and debuted a trailer.

As if that weren’t enough, Joss Whedon came out and debuted a teaser trailer for The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Read our full recap.
