The cast of Hamilton took a field trip to the White House to perform for the President and First Lady! Watch the full performance here!

“The Room Where It Happened” just happened to be the East Room of the White House as the cast of Hamilton filed in to perform. The cast took the trip down to Washington, D.C. from New York to spend the day with a group of very lucky students who would hear the cast perform and participate in a Q&A with the ensemble.

In their fleeting moments of spare time, the cast had spent the day visiting a few notable Alexander Hamilton portraits, statues, and silverware.

Lin-Manuel Miranda took to Twitter to share a special meeting with a notable member of the President’s staff, the current Secretary Treasurer, Jack Lew.

Before stepping into the East Room with the President, Lin-Manuel Miranda paid a visit to the Rose Garden where Obama prompted the songwriter with some note cards to guide a freestyle rap. Miranda had no trouble working POTUS, constitution, Obamacare, and carbon footprint into the mix.

All that was left to do was…

The First Lady introduced the cast earlier in the day as they performed a few songs and spoke to students who gathered for a special afternoon to hear from Lin-Manuel Miranda and many others. The First Lady’s remarks echoed the message of Hamilton: the young people who set their minds to achieving greatness can change the world. “I am thrilled that Lin-Manuel and…Hamilton have committed themselves to bringing this show…to as many young people as possible… We need you. We need good, smart young people running the world,” said Michelle Obama. The students gathered at the Hamilton workshop were treated to a Q&A with the cast as well as a performance.

President Obama introduced the cast where they performed “Alexander Hamilton.” Obama praised the show, saying it was a huge hit in his household, to which the First Lady gave a rousing “whoop” of support. “We wanted to share this incredible musical with folks who might otherwise not get the experience,” said the President before welcoming the cast to the stage.

The performance is only two songs long, but we’ll take what we can get, right?
