You can now watch Fargo online — the first seven minutes anyway. The upcoming series stars Martin Freeman.

Fargo is an adaptation of sorts of the Coen brothers’ classic film. Designed to follow the 1996 film only in tone, Fargo will follow a brand new story with brand new characters.

The first seven minutes of the show was released on the FX YouTube account. Check it out:

“This is a true story,” the opening text states. “The events depicted took place in Minnesota in 2006. At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred.”

It should be noted that the Coen brothers took a similar strategy in the original movie in an attempt to trick the audience. They like to play with the minds of viewers.

The first seven minutes serve as a great tease for the series, and we’re very impressed with how they look. The snappy Coen brothers writing is present with some classic humor, and the setup for Martin Freeman’s Lester Nygaard being unhappy with his wife is there right away. It’s shot beautifully with a great score, and we can’t wait for more.

“We are in a Coen brothers universe,” Fargo executive producer, writer, and showrunner Nick Hawley recently said in a featurette. “This show is about what happens when a civilized man meets a very uncivilized man. It was our hope that we would create a cast that was a movie cast and not a television cast. We’re making a 10 hour movie.”

The Fargo cast stars Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton, as well as Bob Odenkirk, Colin Hanks, Glenn Howerton, Kate Walsh, and Oliver Platt.

If you did watch Fargo online with this newly released first seven minutes, we’d love to hear your thoughts.
