Dylan O’Brien, better known as Stiles on Teen Wolf, will be starring in the romantic comedy The First Time. Watch the trailer below!

The film focuses on a weekend when two high school students meet at a party and the complications that follow. Dave (O’Brien) is in love with Jane (Victoria Justice), who only likes him as a friend. Aubrey (Britt Robertson) is dating Ronny (James Frencheville), who doesn’t quite understand her. As time goes on and Dave and Aubrey become closer, they soon fall in love. The film aims to capture the nervousness and excitement two teenagers feel when they fall in love and have sex for the first time.

While we can’t say that the premise of the film is all that original, we also can’t help but notice that both the acting and the dialogue (in the trailer at least) are right on cue. O’Brien’s comedic timing hasn’t left him just because he’s off the set of Teen Wolf, and we’re glad to see some of his trademark physical comedy stints being put to good use. Robertson also has a few moments that land with a punch, including what is arguably the best line in the trailer: “Oh, I know what platonically means. I’m a junior, not a moron.”

The film was written and directed by Jonathan Kasdan. It also stars Lamarcus Tinker (Glee), Craig Robertson (Becoming Human), Joshua Malina (The West Wing), Christine Taylor (Dodgeball), Maggie Jones (We Bought a Zoo), and Halston Sage (How to Rock).

Although we’ve heard some good things about this movie from those who had the chance to see it at the Sundance Festival, others found it unsatisfying and unoriginal. They did, however, praise the acting of both Dylan O’Brien and Britt Robertson. Check out The Hollywood Reporter’s review.

This film releases October 19.
