With the Harry Potter film franchise coming to an end in July, Warner Brothers has understandably been searching for a new franchise that could be just as successful. They seem to have selected a book series that they hope will take Potter’s place.

WB is working on a script for T.A. Barron’s first two novels in his Merlin series. The rights to the books were originally owned by Paramount, but WB jumped on them when Paramount’s deal expired.

According to Heat Vision:

The film will trace Merlin’s journey from being a boy washed on the shores of Wales with no memory and no home, to him becoming a young man learning to use his powers and ultimately defender of the natural world and eventual mentor to King Arthur

We’re not surprised WB isn’t straying too far from the Potter storyline. A quick check of The Lost Years of Merlin‘s reviews on Amazon shows the story is a great read.
