Warner Bros. has hired Chronicle director Josh Trank to direct an adaptation of the graphic novel The Red Star, reports Deadline.

According to Deadline, Jason Rothenberg is scripting the film for Trank. The synopsis for the story reads:

The Soviet-themed sci-fi fantasy comic book series was picked up by Warner Bros after Universal let it go. Created by Christian Gossett, the comic is set in an alternate USSR where futuristic technology co-mingles with magical elements. The protagonist is a Red Fleet soldier who goes up against an ex-leader who rules with an iron fist.

Trank has become a hot commodity in Hollywood after his impressive debut Chronicle, which was a hit both with critics and at the box-office. In addition to his presumed involvement in a Chronicle sequel, Trank is being eyed for a Fantastic Four reboot, as well as a Spider-Man spin off. We’ll be sure to follow this project closely.
