Preparing for their new Fantastic Beasts franchise, Warner Bros. has trademarked a bunch of interesting terms that may hint at what’s to come from J.K. Rowling’s new movie series.
As discovered by Bleeding Cool, the movie studio behind the upcoming Harry Potter movie spinoff now owns trademarks for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newt Scamander, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages, Wimbourne Wasps, Chudley Cannons, Kenmare Kestrels, and Quidditch expert Kennilworthy Whisp (author of Through the Ages).

What does all of this mean? There’s nothing to confirm or announce today, but Warner Bros. is likely covering their bases in case they need these characters for future movies beyond Fantastic Beasts. It’s possible that the studio and Rowling are considering doing a spinoff of Whisp like they are Scamander, but that is purely speculation on our part.
The trademark for all of these terms covers everything related to their publication, including television, movies, live-action performances, magazines, graphic novels, and many other forms of media.
Rowling and Warner Bros. announced earlier this month that the Harry Potter author will be penning a spinoff based on Newt Scamander and set roughly 70 years before Harry’s story begins. A release date has not been set.
