Warner Bros., just made a huge decision with regards to their 2021 movie slate in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Warner Bros., has just delivered an incredible early Christmas gift to movie fans everywhere.

The studio took to Twitter on Thursday (December 3) to announce that they’ll be releasing 17 films originally intended to debut in theaters straight to HBO Max.

Films from WB’s slate that will be heading straight to streaming in 2021 include some huge highly anticipated titles such as The Suicide Suquad, The Matrix 4, Dune, Godzilla vs. King Kong, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Mortal Kombat, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, In The Heights, and more.

All of the films heading straight o HBO Max will be available to stream for subscribers at no additional cost for a one-month window, which starts on the same day the films will also be available in theaters in the U.S.

News that Warner Bros., is prepping to send even more highly anticipated titles over to HBO Max comes hot on the heels of the studio announcing that Wonder Woman 1984 will be debuting via the streaming platform on Christmas Day.

It also marks an unprecedented move that completely does away with the traditional theatrical exclusivity window which, prior to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, ensured that films could not head to VOD until after they’d been excuislvely in theaters for 75-90 days.

While today’s news might be great for movie fans who’ve been put out by the fact that so many of Hollywood’s intended theatrical releases have found themselves pushed back in light of COVID-19, it’s more than likely that movie theaters won’t be as pleased.

That being said, it makes sense that studios are now looking to adapt to the fact that there’s still no clear forecast with regards to when we might expect to see movie theaters reopen.
