Glenn has found himself in an unfortunate situation recently on The Walking Dead, but actor Steven Yeun thinks his bad luck could have been avoided.

As a young man in love, Glenn might have his judgment clouded when it comes to his safety. Steven Yeun definitely thinks so. As he tells AMC, he and Maggie weren’t being careful enough when they were jumped by Merle while on a supply run.

“I think they made a mistake in that moment and let their guard down. That’s what happens when you have love in the apocalypse!”

Unfortunately for the young lovers, their moment of vulnerability cost them a lot. Their world of frightening zombies and even more dangerous humans is much different from the world we know today.

“The stakes aren’t as high in the real world – if you were to go shopping for baby formula, I don’t think someone would come up to you and steal your girlfriend. But in that situation, it’s almost terrible to have that attachment.”

Take a second look at the scene in which Glenn and Maggie get taken hostage. What could they have done differently?

Aside from a developing romance for Yeun’s character on The Walking Dead, Glenn also has a growing sense of leadership. Though he isn’t quite up to the ranks of Daryl in terms of Rick’s chain of command, Glenn is a crucial member to the team.

“For me personally, the challenges of this season were about filling the holes left by the people that we lost. There are a lot of amazing actors that aren’t there any more.”

Yeun says that this new responsibility for Glenn has also taken a toll on himself as an actor.

“As that happens, a little bit more responsibility is put on you in the weight you carry. So I feel like I’ve been dealt the same amount of responsibility on the show that Glenn has been dealt, and that growth has been almost one to one as each season has gone.”

At any rate, we love seeing more of Glenn’s strength on The Walking Dead, as well as his devotion to Maggie and their relationship.

Do you think Glenn gets enough credit for his role in Rick’s tribe?
