AMC’s Walking Dead spinoff will take place in a city far away from where the original series is set: Los Angeles.

As promised, the yet-to-be-titled zombie drama will follow a group of characters who are in a different city than the one that Rick and company are inhabiting.

While details about the show’s plot are still scarce, AMC was forced to unveil the location because showrunners have already started scouting for homes to use in Southern California. They’ve been working under the codename “Cobalt.”

Using Los Angeles as the setting opens up several exciting options for The Walking Dead spinoff. Not only is it very different looking than Atlanta (far less trees if they’re only hanging around in the city itself), Southern California offers a wide range of dramatic areas they can work with, ranging from huge mountains to the Pacific Ocean.

We wonder if the gang will find themselves entering Hollywood – the neighboring city of Los Angeles. There are plenty of fun places we could see zombies walking around, like the legendary Walk of Fame.

Maybe in one episode, some of the characters will get the urge to drive to Las Vegas (only a four hour drive away – three if there’s no traffic!).

Maybe in another, a small group of characters will try to break into a film studio.

The Walking Dead spinoff will begin filming in the next couple of months and stars Cliff Curtis in the lead role. Supporting roles have gone to Frank Dillane and Alycia Debram Carey, with more announcements expected soon.
