The Walking Dead’s new coming-of-age spinoff has reportedly cast three major characters for the youth-focused new zombie thriller.

Growing up is hard enough without trying to navigate a zombie apocalypse, but in the new spinoff of The Walking Dead, we’ll be following the first generation of kids fighting to grow up, survive, and thrive in a world overrun by the undead. And according to reports, the show has cast three important roles for the show.

According to Variety, Alexa Mansour will play one of the show’s two leads while Nicolas Cantu and Hal Cumpston have been cast in major roles. The show’s basic structure will follow two female protagonists as they navigate adolescence and fight to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.

The second protagonist role has yet to be cast, but Variety reports that Mansour’s character is supposed to be a “good-natured rule-breaker who lives for today” that is “funny on the outside but sad on the inside.” And honestly, can you really blame Mansour’s character for living in the moment and not having much concern for rules? There are literal undead roaming around!

Catu is reported to play a boy who is “small for his age,” friendly, and an “old soul.” His character is also reported to have a black belt in karate, which could definitely come in handy in the walker-filled world of The Walking Dead.

And while Catu’s character is small for his age, Cumpston’s character is reported to be large for his. A “shy loner” who can frighten some of the other kids on the show, Cumpston’s character is actually a softie who hates that he scares children.

While these characters all sound fascinating and we can’t wait to learn more, this information does come from Variety’s insider sources. AMC hasn’t officially commented on any roles on the show at this time, so we’re still waiting to hear more official details on this new corner of the Walking Dead universe.

However, this won’t be the first time we’ve seen kids in the Walking Dead world. Carl Grimes (and, by extension, actor Chandler Riggs) grew up before our eyes on The Walking Dead, and Fear the Walking Dead has featured teenagers. However, this will be the first time where the kids are the main protagonists rather than supporting characters.

We can’t wait to see how this show plays into the larger Walking Dead universe, and for AMC to release more official details about this new spinoff. We’ll keep you posted here as more news drops on the series.
