Welcome to “Who Died on Dead,” a new feature (maybe*) here on Hypable where we look at what The Walking Dead cast members are up to outside of the AMC drama in an attempt to figure out which character was killed by Negan during the season 6 finale.

This week’s subject is Steven Yeun. The Hollywood Reporter says that Yeun has just begun work on a new movie titled Okja starring Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano. “The story centers on a girl (Seohyun An) who befriends a genetically manufactured pig named Okja. When the pig grows up to gigantic proportions, the corporation that created him takes him, thrusting the girl, now a teen, into a mission to take it back,” according to the report.

The news comes just one month after Yeun joined another movie called Mayhem which started filming in late March. This is the first time Yeun has shot more than one movie in between seasons of The Walking Dead.

Is this confirmation that Glenn is the one who gets killed by Negan? Skeptics could argue that Yeun’s role in Okja may be a small one that won’t take up more than a couple weeks, which could be true. But we’re now awfully close to the start of production on TWD season 7, which is slated to begin filming within the next two to three weeks. And why would Yeun bother filming a weird movie about a genetically manufactured pig if he still has a hugely successful series like Dead on his plate? (No offense to the pig movie. I’m sure it’ll be good.)

We also have to remember that whoever is killed will have to return to the set for at least a couple days so they can shoot their death scene. So in theory, Yeun could start filming Okja, spend a day or two filming his Dead death, then return to Okja.

Glenn is the one who gets killed by Negan and Lucille in The Walking Dead comic series, but many are expecting the TV adaptation to select a different character in light of the fake Glenn death earlier in season 6. Then again, the cliffhanger during the season 6 finale is now making this writer wonder if they’re making us wait for the answer to who died in order to build up enough momentum to justify a second death for Glenn. Having him die again at the end of season 6 would’ve held less emotional impact, considering we saw the same thing happen a few months earlier. Does making us wait longer to find out who died bring that impact back? We won’t know until we see it in TWD season 7.

*We will continue to keep an eye on what’s going on with various Walking Dead stars, but only one of the actors who kneeled before Negan will have a free schedule as we head into summer. For that reason, “Who Died on Dead” may be a short-lived series.

The Walking Dead season 7 is expected to premiere this October on AMC.
