AMC has added its first new cast member for The Walking Dead season 5 in actor Seth Gilliam.

Gilliam will play someone who the network is calling Michael Todd, but Deadline reports that is not the name he’ll have on the show. He’s described as having “two sides, displaying a friendly, puckish humor but also having a haunted side stemming from a dark secret.”

Gilliam will be recognizable to Teen Wolf viewers. The actor plays Dr. Deaton on the MTV drama. He also starred on The Wire as Sgt. Ellis Carver.

Based on the character description, one person Gilliam could be playing from The Walking Dead comic series is Father Gabriel. The priest tells Rick and company in the comics that he locked the doors to his church and let families get eaten by walkers outside. That’s arguably a “dark secret” that could be haunting this new character in The Walking Dead season 5.

Gabriel also knows Eugene Porter in the comics, so that relationship could potentially be tied into the show since we’ve already met Eugene who’s traveling with Abraham.

The Walking Dead season 5 is expected to premiere this October on AMC. In a couple of interviews since season 4 wrapped in March, the show runners have promised more action in the forthcoming episodes. Actor Norman Reedus (Daryl) says that the scripts are completely insane.”

We learned in March that the roles of Gareth, Tara, and Rosita were promoted to series regulars, so expect to see more of them in the new season.

Who do you think Gilliam will play on ‘Walking Dead’ season 5?

Thanks to Deadline for the tip.
