We have one longstanding issue with The Walking Dead’s cast: They love to hype up new episodes of their show.

This is their job, of course. But the problem is that sometimes the show doesn’t meet the expectations that the cast sets for fans.

The latest example: In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, The Walking Dead co-star Norman Reedus (who plays Daryl) raises our hopes up again. “These scripts are the best scripts so far, and I’m really just excited to be back at it,” he says of season 5.

Why are they the best scripts? Reedus is understandably not able to divulge details, but he describes the upcoming episodes as “badass.” “Everybody on the whole team is so badass right now,” he says. “It’s interesting, because a lot of personalities are clashing, or characters’ personalities are clashing. But yeah, we definitely have Rick back.”

If these are the best scripts, then hopefully they have some of the best action (which the show has been criticized for lacking in recent seasons) and compelling, dramatic character arcs. Only time will tell, but we’re not going to forget this interview, Reedus!

The actor added that he’s proud of the team behind the show and feels like it’s moving smoothly even five seasons in. “Scott [Gimple, showrunner], he’s so good at his job, and he’s such a great storyteller and such a good writer. He has this thing planned out to the end, I think. He’s definitely very qualified for the job. I never felt like we weren’t stable, though. I feel like we’re as stable as we ever were, just we have the confidence that we have this team back. It’s such a well-oiled machine right now. It’s great, and everyone feels super confident.”

The Walking Dead season 5 will premiere this October, and a trailer is expected next month at San Diego Comic-Con.
