Yesterday’s “Dead, White, and Blue” Walking Dead marathon was capped off by the first clip from season 5.

In this first Walking Dead season 5 clip, Carol (Melissa McBride), Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman), and baby Judith are on their way to Terminus when a herd of zombies comes through the trees. Take a look:

This first clip from The Walking Dead season 5 tells us a couple things:

– The show will not be time-jumping between last season and the new one.
– This clip is most likely from the season premiere. At least, we hope so. These three characters can’t spend much more time on the train tracks, can they? It must be so boring to film the same thing for so many episodes.
– Theory: Many are speculating that this trio will inadvertently lead the herd of zombies to Terminus, causing a bit of a scene once they arrive but aiding in the escape of Rick and company. Perhaps the people of Terminus will ask Rick for help in fighting off the zombies, or Rick will use the distraction as an opportunity to run away.
– Speaking of hopes and theories, we would love to see the long-gestating Rick/Carl/Judith reunion to happen during episode 1.

The Walking Dead season 5 will premiere this October on AMC. The first trailer is expected at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.

Apart from this clip, the only official promotional material we’ve received so far is this still of Rick poking his head out of the train car he’s trapped in at Termius.

A promotional video which shares interviews from the set of season 5 suggests that this season is going to be the biggest and craziest yet. Today’s clip does not prove that, but we’ll remain cautiously optimistic.
