The Walking Dead season 5, episode 5 found Eugene in a tough position thanks to a certain revelation.

At the end of last night’s new episode of The Walking Dead, Eugene admitted that he’s not a scientist and has no idea what’s happening in Washington D.C. He lied about knowing how to cure the infection so that Abraham would protect him from zombies. Eugene, as we learned last night, is very scared of the undead.

In flashbacks, we learned that Eugene and Abraham first met one another moments after the latter discovered his family died. We didn’t learn why Abraham’s wife and two children decided to leave him – our only hint into their decision was seeing Abraham kill people left and right. Could this have been soon after the outbreak occurred? Maybe his family was scared that underneath the family man was this ability to kill other humans.

In present day, Abraham offered Eugene several brutal punches that may’ve killed the character. The Walking Dead loves to tease viewers, and it looks like we’ll be waiting another two weeks before we learn what happened to Eugene.

Like the “scientist” pointed out to Tara during the episode, he’s useless without his knowledge of how to cure the infection. What will his purpose be now? He was really good at extinguishing zombies, so maybe he can take the firetruck back to Rick’s camp and take on a new role as the lead “zombiefighter” (that’s a play on “firefighter”).

We’re also wondering if Abraham will lead the group back to Rick. Since the people at the church are planning on heading to D.C., they’ll need to know as soon as possible that there’s no longer a reason to move north.

What will they do now? Build a new shelter? The church may be a good starting point – so long as they can trust Father Gabriel.

In related news, AMC has released a new clip from this Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead season 5, and it’s clear that the focus will be on Daryl and Carol. In this scene – presumably from the early moments of episode 6 – Carol and Daryl are trailing the mystery car that stole Beth. Carol wishes to run the car off the road, but Daryl may have other plans.

We know that Carol ends up in the hospital that Beth is at and Daryl makes it back to Rick (with… at least one person in tow), but Daryl doesn’t appear in the hospital with Beth. So how do they get separated? Or did Daryl come with her to the hospital after all?

After episode 6, presumably viewers will be brought back to the church where Rick and company are currently taking shelter and planning their D.C. move.

Do you think Eugene is dead or alive?
