The Walking Dead returned to San Diego Comic-Con to promote season 5 of the zombie drama. A release date and new trailer were unveiled in Hall H.

The Walking Dead season 5 will premiere Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on AMC. The new trailer can be watched above.

This nearly-three-minute look at the new season is fast paced and action packed. The density of the trailer may be a big hint as to how much action there truly is in the first few episodes of season 5 (like the cast has been teasing).

It looks like Terminus’ Gareth, who appears numerous times in this trailer, will agree to the idea of Rick and company heading to Washington D.C. so long as they find the zombie cure. Much of the new footage shows the lead characters back on the road (and train tracks) again as they move towards the nation’s capitol. And wait – what is Beth doing by herself? Has she been forced into a new group after running away?

Also notable: At least one clip in this trailer confirms that Rick and Carl have been reunited with Judith! We’re sure the reunion moment will be a special scene for fans to watch.

While the trailer focuses on Washington D.C. being the new goal, we have to wonder if there’s truly a cure located there. If there isn’t, how disappointed will the characters be? We hope that there’s at least a little bit of payoff for their long journey.

At the panel today, showrunner Scott Gimple told the audience that season 5 will share the story of how Terminus came to be. He also confirmed that Seth Gilliam will be playing Father Gabriel as was previously speculated.

What do you think of ‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 trailer?

We’ll be speaking to the cast later today – stay tuned for a report afterwards!
