Three photos from this Sunday’s new Walking Dead season 4 episode depict the character who appeared at the very end of episode five a few days ago.

The Governor looks like he’s in a very bad state. He looks a bit thinner, has blood on his clothes, and generally does not look as well as he was when he was running Woodbury. His time alone in the woods has obviously not been kind to him, and now he’s at the prison to either cause terror or plead for forgiveness so he can live a better life.

Reads the ever-so-vague synopsis for episode 6 titled “Live Bait,” “”Group members struggle to find their humanity while being constantly threatened.”

We suspect the synopsis means that more people who are infected will have to be killed in order to prevent them from turning into a zombie. Will this infection ever let up?

In an interview earlier this week, show runner Scott Gimple said of the Governor, “We will be really getting into who this guy is, to further define this guy. He did something very pronounced at the end of the season that defines him a certain way that affected him a great deal. That’s changed him a great deal. So we will see who this man is now. There will absolutely be a flashback element to filling in some of those blanks. More so, I would say, than we did with rejoining the prison.”

Reports in recent months have indicated that the Governor will only be back for a couple of episodes, so this means he either sees a relatively quick death or he runs away again.

Side note: Some of our readers complained that we offered a spoiler in this article posted Monday. This was not the case. You were only spoiled if you clicked the link and read the full story. There were no spoilers in the headline, photo, or lead. It’s been known for a while that the Governor would be back this season.

The Walking Dead season 4, episode 6 airs Sunday, November 17 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on AMC. While you wait, read our recap of the most recent episode.

Thanks to EW for the new photos.
