Tonight’s episode of The Walking Dead season 4, titled “Inmates,” followed several characters shortly after the tragic events at the prison in the mid-season finale.

Our recap of The Walking Dead season 4, episode 10 breaks down the various story lines that took place.

Beth and Daryl. The episode began with Beth in narrator mode. She’s reading the positive things she’s written in her diary, and overtop the spoken word we see she and Daryl on the run in present day. It shows how excited some of the characters were about the safety they thought the prison would bring.

After some encouragement from Beth, she and Daryl head out to track the others because they’re currently by themselves.

Tyreese… and Carol! … and Judith! Two of the young girls we saw at the prison are with Tyreese. And there’s an even bigger smaller surprise: Judith! Who’s crying day and night. It’s okay though, because just a few minutes later we’re re-introduced to Carol (!), who managed to track down Tyreese after seeing him flee the prison. As viewers recall, she’s been missing for a few episodes after a fallout with Rick. Of course, she doesn’t tell Tyreese about that disagreement because it’s the reason why his girlfriend is dead.

They come across a map with a new safe area called “Terminus” written on it. Presumably this is where these five will head towards.

Also in this section of the episode we saw Lizzie almost kill Judith because of her relentless screaming which attracted zombies. Carol appears to have shown up just in the nick of time to stop her from going through with it.

Maggie, Sasha, Bobby. This group of three is looking for Glenn and the bus that left the prison. They end up coming across it, Maggie goes inside, and underneath a zombie lies… her man? No, because she starts laughing after she kills a walker with hair similar to his.

Glenn. So if he’s not on the bus, where IS he? It turns out he’s still back at the prison with a gun and a head full of confusion. He heads into his old jail cell and pulls out some heavy duty gear to protect himself in the wild outdoors. As far as we can tell, he’s the last human to leave the prison. On his way out, he sees a woman named Tara. He grabs her and they go out into the woods together. They talk as they walk, and it turns out she was one of the women who was with the Governor. Tara breaks the news to Glenn that Hershel is dead.

We also learn something: Glenn and Maggie are married! But when? If it’s true, it must’ve been a very secret little event, and we hope a more formal ceremony happens in the future when things have calmed down.

At the very end of the episode, Glenn gets knocked out and three new characters are introduced in a cliffhanger moment: Sgt. Abraham Ford (the red head), Eugene Porter, and Rosita. In the comics, they supposedly know what caused the outbreak – but can they be trusted?

Overall, episode 10 was filled with numerous nice surprises.

The Walking Dead season 4, episode 11, titled “Claimed,” airs Sunday, February 23 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on AMC.
