Alanna Masterson has joined The Walking Dead season 4 for a recurring role that may turn into a series regular position for season 5.

Deadline reports that her character hasn’t been confirmed by the network, but speculation is that she may portray Tara Chalmers, who has a sister and father in the apocalyptic world’s comic series by Robert Kirkman. She will begin her role in the middle of season 4 – perhaps around the mid-season finale or premiere.

Masterson joins a steadily growing list of newcomers for The Walking Dead season 4 which will see Rick and company hosting Woodbury’s former residents in a refreshed prison environment. Other recently-announced newcomers include Phineas and Ferbs’ Vincent Martella and Twilight’s Christian Serratos. The former will play a new friend for Carl while the latter will play a former prostitute.

The zombies will develop a new threat in The Walking Dead season 4, and a poster touting the new episodes seems to suggest that they will be able to break through the fences and infiltrate the prison. A trailer for the season seemed to suggest this plot twist as well. It remains to be seen how Rick will be able to continue protecting his people when the zombies posses this scary new power.

Masterson has had small roles in The Young and the Restless, Grey’s Anatomy, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles .

The Walking Dead season 4 premieres Sunday, October 13 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on AMC. Thanks to Deadline for the tip.
