This weekend at New York Comic-Con, showrunners announced the addition of two key characters for The Walking Dead season 4 and who will play them.

Both characters are familiar to those who’ve read the comic series by Robert Kirkman (who also produces the television adaptation for AMC).

Josh McDermitt and Michael Cudlitz have joined The Walking Dead season 4 in the role of Dr. Eugene Porter and Sgt. Abraham Ford. In the comics, the characters are a former high school science teacher and an Army man/sports coach who travel with Rosita (played by Twilight’s Christian Serratos). The three humans come across Rick, and Eugene claims to know what is causing the outbreak. Readers later find out that Eugene is lying about his knowledge of the situation.

Cudlitz is pictured in a still from the show above, and appears to be in the middle of firing some rounds upon someone or something.

In an interview with THR, showrunner Scott Gimple says that Eugene and the other two characters will be similar to how they appear in the comics but will be changed to fit the show. “We’re going to tell a version of the Eugene, Abraham and Rosita comic stories, that’s what we do,” he said. “I love those characters from the book, they are very different flavors of comic book characters than we’ve seen on the show.”

It’s not clear when these three characters will be appearing, but since we’re learning about them while the show is well into production of The Walking Dead season 4, it can be assumed that we won’t see them until we’re about half-way through this batch of episodes.

Thanks to THR and TV Line.
