The Walking Dead season 4 returns this Sunday (this Sunday!), and in anticipation, new stills from episode 9 have been released.

Two stills posted on AMC’s website from The Walking Dead mid-season 4 premiere titled “After” depict Rick, Carl, and Michonne having lost the prison.

In this first photo, we see Carl deep in thought while his father sleeps on a couch behind him. This is likely from a new home that the father and son discover while on the run. Promos for the new episodes have shown that Rick seems to be taking the loss of his prison and daughter particularly hard, especially when compared to the strength his son has shown.

The second photo shows Michonne, who’s walking through a field with two new armless zombies tied up. These new pets are a throwback to the armless zombies she was walking around with when we first met her. The purpose of these zombies are unclear, but are likely being used as protection and distractions when she runs into trouble.

The Walking Dead mid-season 4 premiere kicks off this Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific followed by a new episode of The Talking Dead hosted by Chris Hardwicke.

The synopsis for the new episode reads, “As the survivors of the prison assault try to regroup, Rick and Carl stumble upon a vacant house in the forest. Meanwhile, Daryl and Beth realize they are being watched by a Group of Bandits Named “The Hunters”, and a new threat begins to emerge.” We’re concerned about the “new threat.”

The mid-season finale, which aired in early December, was a hard one to watch because we lost Hershel and the entire group lost their prison. On the other hand, it’ll be nice to see everyone moving on from what was starting to become a stagnant setting for the zombie apocalypse drama.
